La Penicillium es un género del reino Fungi. Incluye más de 300 especies, la más conocida es Penicillium chrysogenum, productora de penicilina.
Estas novedades se descubrieron porque se logró analizar, por primera vez, el ADN contenido en los depósitos de sarro dental de estos neandertales.
