La reacción es una reducción del dióxido de carbono utilizando una corriente eléctrica y una reacción química con la ayuda de un catalizador de cobre, el único metal que se puede utilizar para producir etileno. “El cobre es un metal mágico: puede producir muchos productos químicos diferentes, como metano, etileno y etanol, pero controlar lo que produce es difícil”, afirma el experto.
Utilizando un equipo desarrollado por Canadian Light Source, el equipo pudo estudiar la forma y el entorno químico de su catalizador de cobre a lo largo de la reacción de reducción de CO2.
